Skin Testing for Allergies

Office Skin Testing

Dr. Livas offers convenient in-office skin tests that accurately diagnose allergic asthma, insect sting allergies, airborne allergies (pollen, mold allergy, dust mites, animal dander), latex allergy, dermatitis (eczema), and food allergies. Skin testing involves exposing your skin to allergens and monitoring for signs of an allergic reaction. If the skin at the test site becomes red, itchy, or swollen, we view the test as positive for that particular allergen. Dr. Livas can test for several allergens simultaneously to identify which ones are causing symptoms.

Same-Day Test Results

Dr. Livas provides scratch and intradermal tests during the same office visit, and the results of patch tests are available within 48 hours. Your test results are crucial in developing your treatment plan, which may involve allergy medication or immunotherapy.

Hay Fever Symptoms

Despite its name, hay fever is not caused by hay, and there is no fever. Symptoms such as eye irritation, sneezing, and nasal congestion are expected. Like all allergic reactions, hay fever is caused by allergens, foreign “invaders” such as pollens and molds that enter the body equally by inhalation or through the skin. You may, for instance, have a mold allergy and not know it. The most common hay fever symptoms include sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, watery, itchy eyes, postnasal drip, and a plugged ear(s).
